About Auditions

Auditions will be held at Lucas Hall, on the College Light Opera Co. campus in West Falmouth, located at 54 Chapoquoit Rd, Falmouth, MA 02540.  Please arrive BEFORE the time shown to be ready; latecomers will miss a portion of the audition process. All actors will be asked to speak, sing, and move, so come in comfortable clothes and shoes you can dance in!

Please fill out our audition form ahead of time (doc will be available soon), or, if needed, when you arrive.

Show Overview

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach… and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach, among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities, but after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James’ quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building.

Important Schedule Information

If you are cast in this show, you MUST be available the week of our April 24, 2025 opening night, which happens to be school vacation week (April 18-26).  If you are planning to be out of town that week, please don’t audition – but DO consider helping out with sets, costumes, or other aspects of the production.

Characters

Ladahlord

(20s-60s, Tenor/Baritone)  A strange, magical storyteller. Often inserts himself into the story, in disguise, to help push the action forward.

James

(8-18, Soprano) A lonely young boy who lacks confidence. Having lost both his parents in a freak accident, he feels he belongs nowhere in the world. However, when given the right encouragement he becomes resourceful and innovative. A good friend.

Spiker

(30s-60s, Alto/Soprano)  James’ mean aunt. A thief and a scoundrel. Shrewd and opportunistic.

Sponge

(30s-60s, Alto/Soprano)  James’ other mean aunt. Also a thief and a scoundrel, but not nearly as bright as her sister.

Spider

(20s-40s, Mezzo-Soprano) A normal spider who has magically become human-sized. Her husband was killed and eaten by Spiker and Sponge. She is warm and friendly to James.

Grasshopper

(20s-50s, Tenor/Baritone) An intelligent and cultured grasshopper who has magically become human-sized. An excellent musician and source of positivity. Has his eye on Ladybug.

Centipede

(20s-60s, Baritone/Bass) An ornery centipede who magically becomes human-sized. Hates humans, in part because Spiker and Sponge fumigated his family. Prickly and rude, everyone thinks he is a pest.

Ladybug

(30s-60s, Mezzo-Soprano) A motherly ladybug who has magically become human-sized. Respectable and classy, she has a warm, caring heart. Has her eye on Grasshopper.

Earthworm

(20s-50s, Baritone) An earthworm who has magically become human-sized after eating a crocodile tongue. A bit of a scaredy-cat. He is neurotic and worried about everything, but is very friendly and brave when called upon.

Ensemble

(all ages and vocal ranges) Includes a variety of roles throughout the show. Looking for talented singers, dancers, and/or people who just want to have fun making theater!
